GARDEN PHOTOGRAPHER SOMERSET & DEVON AND ALL OF THE U.K
GARDEN PHOTOGRAPHY COMMISSION
When my eyes first saw the garden, I thought “wow”, I could tell immediately that this garden design and build had a lot of work given to it, a lot of attention to detail. The build is immaculate, there’s not a thing out of place.
The lovely builder of this garden got in touch to ask me to photograph it, and I was in my element. I love to capture such precision craftsmanship and preserve what’s been done, not just for their business marketing but for sentimental reasons too.
I made a film of this garden too, which you can see below and find out all about the garden and what needed to be considered in the design and build.
This garden was designed by Sue Gilbert by Design and lovingly built by HG Landscapes Woburn.

Welcome to this beautiful grade 2 listed garden built by HG Landscapes Woburn and designed by Sue Gilbert Gardens by Design.
The contemporary extension offered wonderful views into the garden but originally the view was dominated by the garage door. So a major part of the designer’s brief was to screen that view and still allow access to the upper garden and garage door.
A new stone wall, matching the house, with a raised bed solves this problem, inset timber trellises are softened with climbers and planting.
A bespoke tiered water feature takes centre place adding sound and movement.
Our clients needed a garden that allowed safe and easy routes for someone with mobility issues, and more importantly that the garden could be explored by 2 people side by side, hence the path width and the gentle access ramps.
The garden offers several places to relax, one of them this classic covered arbour seat.
Bespoke arches and trellis panels also frame view lines and add height softened with climbers.
Rows of evergreen planting will eventually become low blocks of hedging to add a base for the 6 feature Pyrus pendula trees..
Other topiary specimens add to the formality around the garden; shrubs in spheres, cloud pruned shape and round headed standard trees.
Two much-loved sculptures are placed in a drift of Carex ‘Ice Dance’ to mimic grass in a scaled-up level.”
Hedging is used around the garden in various heights to create structure and frame softer planting.
The upper larger family space sits under a bespoke oak pergola, the perfect place to have a barbecue, finished off with a relaxed place to sit after dinner.
Nearby, another place to rest with this beautifully crafted ‘Sitting Spiritually’ swing seat. And this stone bench, all offering places to catch sun or shade and see the garden from different viewpoints.
Here another water feature from A Place In The Garden offers the gentle sound of water.
This garden will provide much relaxation in the years to come
